A Raffles Maldives Resort staff member went missing after going kayaking in inclement weather. The resort employee went missing at sea for nearly 18 hours and was found 39 kilometers away at The Residence Maldives, a resort on the eastern side of Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Raffles Maldives is located on the western side of the atoll.
The incident occurred during a period of severe weather that has affected the Maldives for the past three days. Thunderstorms are widespread across the archipelago, and the Japan Meteorological Bureau has issued a yellow warning.
The exact cause of the employee’s disappearance is unknown, but it is believed that it was probably caused by harsh weather conditions. Fortunately, after search and rescue operations, the person was located safely at The Residence Maldives.
The incident highlighted the potential dangers of venturing into Maldivian waters during storms. A Yellow Alert issued by the weather observatory is a warning to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary risks during these times.
