Ifuru Island Maldives has roped in the legendary Bert Bevans as their resident DJ, who will be playing his tunes around the island for the next two months.
The Belize-born DJ grew up in New York, where he moved as a child, and has spent the majority of his career playing all over the world, DJing at Playboy NY, Studio 54, Zenons, Pippins, Bones, New York, New York and Le Circus, and working in promotion for Prelude Records New York before moving to London where he held residencies at Annabel’s, Embassy Club, Zenons and Camden Palace.
During his time in London, Bert joined Justin Berkman and Humphrey Waterhouse to found Ministry of Sound, where he was a resident DJ, and was one of the pioneers of the music label Ministry of Sound, and has worked with many notable artists including Cathy Brown, Shelley Hicks, Paul McCartney, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Forty years on, he continues to wow audiences around the world with his sets of classic and authentic house music, and there’s nothing he loves more than playing marathon 10 or 12 hour sets from Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza to Ministry in London.
“The idea is to take the dance floor on a journey,” he says.
Over the years he has amassed a collection of over 30,000 records, a dedication that shows in the freewheeling way he plays and connects with his audience.
