To optimize for organic search, you need to know which queries trigger your AI summaries and which URLs they point to. Because summaries are only visible to logged-in users and Search Console doesn’t include a separate summary report, neither query nor citation metrics are easily identifiable.
There are only third-party sources. Here are three tools for tracking and analyzing your AI overview:
Zip tie
Zip tie is a standalone AI summary tracker that monitors users’ important queries on a weekly basis and sends alerts on any missed opportunities.
First, import the query: Search ConsoleZipTie generates a report that includes:
- The page’s ranking for each query.
- Is your page getting attention?
- Whether the query triggered an AI summary and whether the page was viewed.
Click on any query in the report to see which URLs are included in the AI summary and how they are ranking in organic search. Helpful Insights I couldn’t find it anywhere else.
Initial testing Make sure the performance tab in Search Console includes clicks from your AI overview, and ZipTie’s “Standard” tier, which costs $89 per month, integrates with Search Console, so if you combine ZipTie with Search Console, you’ll see clicks to your links in the overview.
Otherwise, ZipTie.dev offers a 14-day free trial with credit card payment, and paid plans start at $29/month for “Basic.”
Sem Rush
Sem Rush What’s Included It will appear in the Position Tracking section of your AI Overview. To see if your site is included in the overview, create a project in Position Tracking with your website URL and list of keywords.
Once your project starts running, go to the Overview tab and use the SERP Features filter to limit your report to queries that trigger the AI Overview. If your site is referenced in the AI Overview, you’ll see an icon next to your organic positions.
In my testing, I was unable to replicate some of the AI summaries reported by Semrush, so ZipTie.dev provided more accurate results.
Semrush doesn’t offer a free trial, and paid plans allow you to track 500 keywords and start at $129 per month.
Google AI Overview Impact Analysis
Google AI Overview Impact Analysis A free Chrome extension that analyzes multiple query summaries.
Install the extension and enter your comma-separated queries in the sidebar. The extension will run each search, identify AI summaries, and report which summaries contain the URL.
The “AI Summary Citations” report includes all URLs referenced in each summary and how frequently each domain appeared across all queries. This feature was useful for identifying domains referenced by multiple summaries for important queries. The report can be downloaded as an Excel file.
