What is the difference between target and spot spraying?
Chris Hansen, wheat agronomist at John Deere, says it’s important to distinguish between small-scale handheld spot spraying and the technology and field-level equipment needed for targeted applications.
Additionally, multiple companies offer different levels of targeted spraying, ranging from simpler “brown on green” techniques to more sophisticated AI data-driven “green on green” spraying.
These options have many more possibilities, not only in crop types but also optical sensors and nozzle choices. Currently, John Deere offers premium green-on-green options for corn, soybeans and cotton, but growers should expect to see more crop types added in the future.
