Velana International Airport (VIA) has announced that the World Conference on Air Services to be held in Kurumba Maldives from July 9 to 11 will provide a major boost to the country’s tourism industry.
Known as the world’s largest gathering of air transport business, this prestigious event connects airlines and airports across the globe and is expected to be attended by over 150 delegates, including representatives of Maldivian airlines.
“The World Congress of Air Services will be a unique experience for attendees, providing new air travel business and business partnership opportunities,” VIA said. “We believe the conference will open many doors for tourism in the Maldives.”
Attendees will not just be tourists, but industry professionals from around the world will be involved, creating a platform to promote the aviation industry in the Maldives.
“The beginnings of our airport were intrinsically linked to tourism,” VIA said. “Commercial aviation in the Maldives was started to meet the travel demand of tourists. Our main goal is to promote tourism and ensure it benefits the industry.”
While the full impact may take time to be felt, the hope is that connectivity will improve. Currently, about 40 airlines serve the Maldives, and attracting more will make the island nation more accessible to tourists from different regions.
This year’s World Congress of Aviation Services follows on from last year’s launch at the San Francisco conference. The event has previously been held in the US, UK and Dubai.
