Chairman of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Abdulla Ghiyath, has been appointed Chairman of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
As a key figure in MATATO, he collaborates on the independent, not-for-profit organisation’s activities which include advocacy, training, awards, study trips, international trade fairs, destination marketing, government lobbying, whistle-blowing etc. Abdullah is a serial entrepreneur who has founded a number of leading travel companies and start-ups including Inner Maldives Holidays, Ace Travels Maldives, Spence Maldives, Universal Aviation Maldives and Margaritum.
Ghiyas’ appointment comes a week after Aishath Hameed and Abdul Samee Imad joined the MMPRC board of directors, alongside Maha Nasir and Aminath Vrau Mohammed Nazim.
The appointment follows the appointment of Ibrahim Shiuli as MMPRC’s new managing director in June.
The government initially appointed Fatima Tawfiq as MMPRC’s managing director, but she was removed from the post on May 22. The company’s chairman, Nurain Jana, and director Rafil Mohammed also resigned in May.
MMPRC (Visit Maldives) is the government agency responsible for marketing and promoting the Maldives as a tourist destination.
