A YubiKey is a small physical device that provides multi-factor authentication and securely stores sensitive data like passwords and keys. By integrating support for YubiKey, Casa members can now use their device as one of the keys in their multi-signature Bitcoin vault.
When setting up a YubiKey with Casa, users generate a Bitcoin seed phrase locally on their computer, which is then protected by a passkey and stored on the YubiKey itself.
The integration uses passkey encryption to Seed Phrase It never leaves your YubiKey and can only be accessed if you authenticate through Casa’s service.
Casa emphasizes that it offers better security than traditional wallet recovery seeds, which can be vulnerable to phishing or theft if written down or stored digitally. With a YubiKey, the seed is cryptographically bound to Casa’s domain, preventing phishing attacks.
