Celebrating once again its status as a symbol of sensory luxury amid the timeless beauty of the Indian Ocean, Vakkaru Maldives has announced that its elegant wine cellar, Vakkaru Reserve, has won the prestigious Wine Spectator Magazine Best of 2024 Award.
This honor, which marks Vakkaru Reserve’s fourth time receiving the award, recognizes the brand’s unwavering commitment to creating immersive and educational experiences with its carefully selected collection. Vakkaru Reserve boasts an extensive wine list with over 680 varietals from 15 countries across the Old and New World, featuring rare vintages as well as contemporary masterpieces, such as the 1974 and 1985 Chateau Cheval Blanc, the 2002 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut and the 2002 Krug Clos du Mesnil.
A haven of delicious flavours housed in a luxurious wooden building just steps from the sea, Vakkaru Reserve Wine Cellar is perfect for intimate group dining on the candlelit terrace or indoors, surrounded by gently swaying palm trees. Guided tastings, wine-paired degustation dinners and sommelier-matched menus offer a range of fantastic opportunities for guests wishing to enhance their island stay by indulging all their precious senses.
An enchanting wine evening at Vakkaru Reserve in 2024 will include a handcrafted five- or six-course menu featuring Black Angus or Wagyu beef tenderloin, amuse-bouche, canapés, Champagne and paired glasses with each dish. After the meal, diners can savor the cellar’s cigar collection under the twinkling stars on the terrace.
“Restaurants that put wine first are the essence of the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards program, and we are pleased to congratulate Vakkaru Reserve for their dedication to wine and exemplary wine list,” said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator.
Head Sommelier Letish Mohanan said, “Since opening in 2018, we have looked forward to serving guests great wines and delicate creations from our outstanding chefs in the sophisticated ambience of Vakkaru Reserve. We are extremely proud to be recognized by Wine Spectator for the fourth time, and nothing beats the smiles we see from each and every guest who visits us.”
Vakkaru Reserve is one of eight incredible restaurants and bars you can experience within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The idyllic resort of Vakkaru Maldives is surrounded by powder-soft white sand and is just a 30-minute seaplane flight from Male International Airport.
