Xiamen Airlines began operating scheduled flights to the Maldives on Tuesday.
The first Boeing 787 landed safely on Tuesday afternoon, kicking off the new service, which now operates three flights per week, providing easy access for Chinese travellers to the Maldives.
China, which was the largest source market for tourism in the Maldives prior to the pandemic, resumed tourist arrivals in January 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. In 2023, the Maldives marked a significant recovery, welcoming 187,118 Chinese tourists. This year, China remains the largest source market, welcoming over 150,000 tourists.
