Malaysia Airlines began flying to the Maldives on Thursday.
The Malaysian flag carrier’s inaugural flight to the Maldives arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Thursday afternoon, with its 168 passengers given a warm welcome with a traditional ceremony.
Malaysia Airlines, represented in the Maldives by Aviation Services Private Limited, flies daily between Kuala Lumpur and the Maldives capital, Male. The airline operates using 174-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The Malaysian market holds great potential for the Maldives. Last year, Malaysia ranked 26th as a source market with 13,551 tourists.
