Tourist numbers to the Maldives are starting to increase after a slowdown in the off-season, with an average of 6,491 tourists per day arriving in the first week of August, the highest recorded this year outside February, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism.
Key figures for daily tourist numbers this year are as follows:
- February saw a record high of 7,496 daily arrivals.
- In May, daily arrivals hit a record low of 3,867.
The length of stay for tourists has also been increasing, falling to an average of 7.2 days in June but rising to 7.9 days in August.
The government is targeting two million tourists by the end of the year. As of the first week of August, 1.2 million tourists had visited the Maldives, reaching 61.4% of the target.
