In a commendable effort to celebrate International Youth Day 2024, Reethi Beach Resort hosted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event and invited 12 inquisitive students from grades 9 and 10 of Kihadhoo School on an educational tour of the resort. The event aimed to give back to the society, foster the tourism industry and endeavour to enable students to gain valuable insights into the operations of the tourism sector in the Maldives.
Accompanied by three dedicated teachers and their school Principal, the students were warmly welcomed at the arrival jetty by Reethi Beach Resort’s General Manager and his dedicated team of staff. The visit provided a comprehensive and immersive experience for the young people, giving them a unique opportunity to experience both the front and back office operations of the resort.
One of the highlights of the day was the students’ visit to the heart of the island, where they were visibly impressed by the scale and complexity of the work that goes on behind the scenes. They were particularly amazed upon entering Reethi Gardens, expressing a collective “wow” in amazement. The experience gave the students a greater understanding of the intricate work that goes on behind the scenes at the resort.
Additionally, Coconut Spa and Ocean Fanatics warmly welcomed the students and provided insight into their unique contributions to the resort’s operations. These interactions further deepened the students’ understanding of the diverse facets of the hospitality and tourism industry.
The event concluded with a heart-warming recognition ceremony where students’ participation and efforts were recognised. The young people were provided with hearty meals and a range of snacks throughout the day, ensuring a fulfilling, fun-filled and enriching learning experience.
“Our aim is to give students first-hand experience of the hospitality industry. By nurturing their curiosity, we contribute to the local community and the future of the tourism industry,” said Valentin Osoros, general manager of Reethi Beach Resort.
The event was also actively participated by Kihadu School Principal Mr. Mohammed Zubair, Head Teacher Mr. Hassan Haleem and BTEC Teacher Mr. Nitin Valiyapurakal, whose participation further enriched the students’ experience by joining the discussions and providing additional guidance, making the educational tour comprehensive and impactful.
“This experience has opened the students’ eyes to opportunities in the tourism industry and we are grateful to Reethi Beach Resort for this educational initiative,” commented Kihadu School Principal.
Reethi Beach Resort remains committed to supporting the local community and promoting educational initiatives to empower young people, in line with the values of International Youth Day and beyond.
