The Ontario Beef Farmers Association was first to report that Cargill and the union representing 960 employees at the Cargill Dunlop processing plant had reached a recommended memorandum of understanding for settlement. The settlement proposal will be voted on by union members on Saturday, July 6.

“BFO is encouraged by the positive contract negotiations at Cargill’s Guelph plant. A membership vote was held on Saturday which reportedly resulted in the passage of a recommended memorandum of settlement. BFO will continue to keep members updated on progress,” it added. The strike at the Cargill plant began on May 27, 2024. The plant processes approximately 80 per cent of all beef slaughtered in Ontario.
Trade unions representing workers The vote is The settlement meeting will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. An information session for union members is scheduled for Friday. All staff are asked to continue picketing according to their existing shift schedules.
