What if women working in agriculture can’t find comfortable work clothes?
Would you like to start your own clothing line? That’s what independent agronomist Michelle Durnin did when she started her business in 2021. Dhanin Farm & Ranch Wear We design and sell workwear for women.
At Canadian Daily It was crowded with people.
There is more than just the standard black and brown coveralls made for men. “It’s made to fit a woman’s body shape…and has room in the hips,” Durnin says. It is easy to put on and take off from the shoulders and is made from a unique fabric. “I would say we’ve really elevated our workwear game and stepped it up to other industries like healthcare.”
Durnin worked with pattern makers to design quick-drying overalls and coveralls. “It’s very popular, especially among dairy farmers. It’s very stretchy and very mobile, which makes it even more comfortable,” she says. Story continues after video.
Durnin says the idea for women’s farm and ranch wear was actually born out of a personal need. She grew up working on a farm and riding horses, then she went into the field of agriculture. “I started just to design something that I wanted to wear. And I decided to see if there were other people who wanted to wear this. And other women wanted to wear them too. I knew I loved it. So it was really exciting.”
The business is primarily online-based, with a website that acts as a sales hub and a strong social media presence that helps build a growing online community. Durnin said she plans to release a series of shorts to her agricultural friends this summer, and her followers can expect more new releases this fall.
