For Brenda Simeon, it all started when her father decided he wanted a sign for his farm. He saw his sign while traveling in Western Canada and decided it was time to make one for his farm in Ontario.
The sign was founded 40 years ago and now Simeon has created a business that makes signs and ships them all over the world. Orders come from as far away as Italy and Germany. Currently, the business includes signs for a variety of commercial, residential, cottage and church buildings, but 90% of his signs are manufactured by Simeon’s. brenwood sign Standing proudly on the farm.
in Canadian Daily XPO This week in Stratford, Ont., Simeon spoke about the work and love that goes into every zodiac sign. In this interview with RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin, he says that each sign made from Western Red Cedar typically takes him 40 hours from start to finish. To make a 4-foot sign, glue eight pieces of cedar wood together and sandblast the details into the sign.
Simeon will show you how to create your design by cutting out a rubber stencil of your design and applying it to the wood. “The areas where the rubber stencil is will remain raised and other areas will be dug out by the sand.” Once the sign is complete, a durable outdoor clear paint is applied to protect the finish. The sign pictured above costs approximately $2,500.
Taking care of your sign is the key to making it last longer. She says if a new clear coat finish is applied every three years, a farmer can expect the sign to last her 25 or 30 years. See the report below.
