The Prime Minister announced on Friday the appointment of a new Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Food Canada (AAFC).
Lawrence Hanson, currently deputy deputy minister at Environment and Climate Change Canada, has been selected to become the federal agriculture department’s top official, effective June 3, 2024, succeeding Stephanie Beck.
Beck will become deputy defense minister after serving as deputy undersecretary prior to that role. Appointed as AAFC in February 2023.
Mr. Hanson previously served as Assistant Minister at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia.
