Sun Siyam Viru Reef announced the impressive achievements of its culinary and service team members at the prestigious Hotel Asia Culinary Challenge 2024, held from May 13th to 15th. Competing against the region’s top talent, the team demonstrated outstanding skill and creativity, taking home numerous medals in a variety of categories.
The Hotel Asia Culinary Challenge is known for showcasing the best of culinary talent and this year was no exception. Our team members excel in both food production and beverage service, reflecting Sun Siyam Virud Reef’s high standards and innovative spirit.

- Live Cooking Beef Category: Demi Chef Ahsani – Silver Medal
- Live Cooking Seafood Category: Commis I Pritham – Silver Medal (Regional runner-up)
- Live Cooking Chicken Category: Demi Chef Manoj – Bronze Medal
- Live Carving Category: Demi Chef Dinush – Certificate of Merit

- Iced Tea Challenge Category: Outlet Supervisor Puran Chalis – Silver Medal (Regional Runner-Up)
- Mocktail Category: Bartender Pathum Udayanga – Bronze Medal
- Creative Beverage Category: Bartender Ashroff Khan – Silver Medal
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef’s chefs showed off their culinary skills in a live cooking competition, winning accolades for their exquisite beef, seafood and chicken dishes. Ahsani’s silver medal in the beef category and Pritham’s silver medal in the seafood category, in addition to their regional runner-up status, highlight their exceptional talent. Manoj’s bronze medal in the chicken category further highlights the culinary excellence of Sun Siyam Vilu Reef.
In the art category, Dinush’s talent was recognized with certificates in both the live carving and show art categories, demonstrating his creativity and skill in food presentation.
Our beverage team also shined, with Plan Challis securing a silver medal in the Iced Tea Challenge and securing our regional runner-up spot. Pathum Udayanga’s innovative mocktails won him a bronze medal while Ashraf Khan’s creative beverage skills won him a silver medal.
