Controlling weed populations in fields intended for growing pulse crops is complicated by several factors, including susceptibility to carryover of pulses, poor competition from early crops, and herbicide-resistant problem weeds.
“These herbicides are a game changer,” said Sean McKnight, technical marketing specialist for herbicides at BASF. Pulse School Episodes The concept of layered herbicide application is particularly useful in legume fields because it allows both ends of the growing season to be maximised for weed control.
Herbicide stratification works in conjunction with tank-mixing herbicides and rotating appropriate modes of action: rather than choosing one or the other, use both to take advantage of product options, immediate and residual control, and help delay resistance development within some weed populations.
