When fungicides are used effectively to protect soybean plants, producers can expect to see more uniform and larger seed size when the combine runs through the field at harvest.
In this episode Real Agriculture Soybean SchoolBASF Canada agronomist Ken Kara said if growers time their fungicide application well and apply it at the R2.5 growth stage, they can harvest heavier, denser seeds and increase yields.
“If you’re in a two-pass program and the first pass is to deal with white mold, you might be a little bit behind, but if you’re trying to improve yield and seed quality and weight and take advantage of the good yield base that the field has, then you’re at R2.5.”
In this video, Carla explores the many factors that influence the occurrence and severity of yield-robbing white mold disease, including farm location, field history, growing environment, variety selection, row width, canopy, etc. She also shares crop staging tips to help target white mold sprays and explains why it’s important to limit the amount of product in the tank when applying fungicides when the crop is stressed.
