The organization that unites and represents Canada’s grain value chain has a new chairman.
Brett Halstead, a farmer in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, who represents the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Board, was elected chair of the Canadian Grains Council at its board meeting in Winnipeg on Thursday.
The 2024 Cereals executive committee will include Adam Dyck (Warburton) who will serve as vice-chair, Jean-Marc Rouest (Richardson International Inc.) as secretary and Greg Fotheringham (Manitoba Crop Alliance) as treasurer.
Four new directors have been elected to Cereals Canada’s board of directors:
- Dean Hubbard, Alberta Grains
- Rob Stone, Saskatchewan Wheat Development Board
- Cami Ryan, Bayer CropScience Canada (2-year term)
- Jared Benes, BASF (2-year term)
Halstead succeeds Jennifer Marchand of Cargill, who served as chair for the past two years and will remain on the Canadian Grains Council’s board of directors as a director. Cargill is one of several grain company members that recently notified the association of their intention to withdraw within two years, but has committed to remaining actively involved in the association in the meantime.
The Canadian Grains Council also released its annual report and announced plans to build a $100 million “global agricultural technology exchange” in Winnipeg in conjunction with its annual general meeting on Thursday.
