of Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) The Communications Authority of Singapore and Hong Kong (OFCA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combat fraud.
The agreement was finalized at the two countries’ annual bilateral meeting in Singapore on June 11, 2024.
Fraud is a cross-border issue that requires strong international cooperation.
Singapore and Hong Kong, as major financial hubs in Asia with advanced communications networks, face similar challenges.
This makes the partnership between IMDA and OFCA crucial in tackling fraud in the region.
The agreement focuses on providing mutual assistance and cooperation regarding fraudulent calls and text messages through the exchange of information.
It also aims to promote fraud research and education while developing a coordinated approach to regulatory issues and consumer protection across both jurisdictions.
IMDA’s international collaboration efforts do not end with this partnership, as it has signed similar agreements. Malaysia, America, new zealandand Australia.
