Ooredoo Maldives has partnered with Freediving Instructors International (FII) to announce a special event dedicated to the growing freediver community in the Maldives.
Titled “Safety Under Water: Freediving Safety Session with World Champions”, this important session aims to reinforce diving safety measures, avoid accidents and promote best practices. The event will take place on 3 July 2024 at 8pm at Ooredoo Maldives Headquarters, Hulhumale.
The session will be led by two distinguished speakers from FII, America’s first and only recreational freediving education institution internationally recognized for maintaining the highest safety standards in the industry.
Martin Stepanek is one of the greatest freedivers in history, a 13-time world record holder and the first person to dive more than 400 feet on a single breath. Martin is passionate about the physiology of freediving and has worked closely with leading researchers at Harvard University and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden to unravel the physiological mysteries of the sport. His participation in this ongoing research is helping scientists better understand how depth and pressure affect freedivers.
Errol, an internationally recognized freediving instructor from Toronto, Canada, has been immersed in the world of freediving since he was young. He works closely with Martin Stepanek at FII to develop freediving curriculum such as FII’s Junior Freediver program and is one of the most sought-after freediving instructors in the world. He teaches both recreational and professional level certification courses throughout the United States, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Spain and Qatar.
Khalid Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO, Ooredoo Maldives said, “At Ooredoo Maldives, we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote safety and well-being within the community. This freediving safety course is an important step towards enabling our growing community of freedivers to pursue their passion with the highest standards of safety and knowledge. We are proud to partner with FII to bring their world-class expertise to the Maldives.”
FII Founder Martin Stepanek added, “Freediving is a beautiful yet challenging sport that requires not only physical and mental strength but also a deep understanding of safety precautions. Through this event, we aim to further equip the Maldivian freediving community with the knowledge and skills they need to dive safely and confidently. We are grateful to Ooredoo Maldives for sharing our insights and contributing to promoting safe freediving in the beautiful Maldives.”
