Farmers across six Ontario counties have until Tuesday, June 18 to plant corn and receive production insurance coverage through AgriCorp.
Last weekend, it was announced that corn planting would begin in Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Chatham-Kent, Essex and Elgin counties.
“Continued wet weather in parts of Ontario is creating challenging planting conditions for corn farmers. After assessing the risks and consulting with industry, Agricorp is extending the corn planting deadline in Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Chatham-Kent, Essex and Elgin counties until June 18th,” Agricorp said.
The extension was approved by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness and Agriculture-Food Canada.
The decision to plant within the extended planting period is up to individual farmers, and Agricorp encourages all farmers considering their options to check the production insurance rules. here.
